The Path

A section of the path (click to enlarge)

Over the last few months I’ve been sawing, whacking and clipping a path through the forest behind our house. Near to our yard, there’s heavy brush and the trees are mostly spindly saplings. But as you go deeper into the woods, the trees get bigger and further apart, the brush thins out, and you eventually reach a ravine with a seasonal creek in it.

It’s nice to be able to wander out there every now and then, and look up at the trees and just enjoy the birds and the quiet. At this time of year, you also get a feel for how various plants are budding and leafing out, and you occasionally see deer or raccoon prints in the muddy ground.

Even a small sliver of nature such as this is enough to raise my spirits.
