Harvesting Hay

The hay was finally cut in some of the fields around the house yesterday. Unfortunately one of the biggest fields has sprouted large numbers of tall weeds that make it pretty much unharvestable. Mark, the farmer who lives nearby and came yesterday evening with his tractor, said the steady threat of summer rain made it inadvisable for him to cut the hay earlier (once it’s cut, you don’t want it to get wet). But the delay gave time for the weeds to grow. He’ll be back soon to bale the hay that he did cut. “This is the easy part,” he said as he started up his tractor and went to work.
